Institutional Management
The Ahmedabad Education Society (AES), a premier voluntary non-profit organization, with the support from the Government of Gujarat, established the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) at Ahmedabad in 1962 with the inception of the School of Architecture. In 1994, CEPT was registered as a separate Society and a Public Trust. Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) has been accorded the status of a university by an Act of 2005 passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly and is now called CEPT University.

Frequency of the Board Meetings and Academic Advisory Body Meetings : Twice a year
 
• Role of the Board of Management
The Board is responsible for the general superintendence, direction and control of the affairs of the University, to constitute the Executive and the Academic and Research Councils; the Finance and Development Committee; and to delegate any of its powers to the Executive Council, President, Director, Deans, Registrar, or any other officer, employee or authority of the University or to a committee appointed by it; for more efficient management of the University. The Board also has the powers to review the acts of the Executive Council, the Academic and Research Council and the Finance and Development Committee.
 
• Role of the Executive Council
The Executive Council is responsible to administer and manage the University including various centres/cells, its academic as well as financial aspects; to finalize and implement the academic calendar to include examination schedules, holidays, vacations etc.; to finalize candidates/names for fellowships, scholarships, prizes, medals and other awards; to regulate expenditure, management of finances including grants, etc.; to create and to maintain infrastructure, facilities, and amenities of the University; to ensure discipline and welfare of the students as well as the employees, overall security measures, student activities, campus development, campus maintenance, etc.; to plan, encourage and monitor execution of research projects, consultancy activities, conduct seminars/training programmes/workshops. It constitutes of the Director, Deans and Registrar as the Non-Member Secretary.
 
• Role of the Academic and Research Council
The Academic and Research Council’s role is to develop a perspective plan for the academic development of the University; to develop academic and research policies of the University. It is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of standards of instruction, education and evaluation in the University; to approve new programmes and to oversee changes/modifications in existing programmes; to receive reports of the Boards of Studies and make suitable recommendations in academic matters of programmes; to initiate or approve research programmes including collaborative research; to initiate or approve collaborations with other Universities; and to encourage and develop joint inter-disciplinary programmes.
 
• Role of Finance and Development Committee
The F & D committee is responsible for examining the annual accounts and the annual budget estimates of the University and advise the Board thereon; to review the financial position of the University from time to time and make recommendations on financial policy matters of the University regarding proposals involving raising of funds, receipts and expenditure; to provide guidelines for investment of surplus funds.
 
• Board of Studies
The role of the Board of Studies is to monitor directions and progress and the extent to which the programme or School has satisfied its objectives. Their main responsibilities are setting the broad programme objectives, assessing and advising on the programme content, assessing the faculty resource adequacy, guiding on the examination system. The general composition of the Board of Studies constituted for each programme is headed by the Dean of the Faculty and has Heads of Department, two senior faculty, one senior visiting faculty, experts from academic and two experts from profession/industry.
 
• Faculty Council
Faculty council of each School, consisting of all the core and adjunct faculty, is responsible for delivery of the academic programme. The council headed by the Director of each school, is entrusted with setting up of the aims of the programme, annual updation of courses, course allocation to faculty and delivery schedule and ensuring the delivery of courses, monitoring the performance of the programme including student evaluation, staff resource need identification and training needs
Each School/Programme is administered through a series of committees chaired by a faculty member on rotation. They include Academic Affairs Committee, Admissions Committee, Dissertation Committee, Student Affairs Committee.
 
• Students’ Council
The Students’ Council on behalf of the students at CEPT involve in academic governance and grievance redressal. Under the guidance of the campus activities committee, they independently organize various programmes – quizzes, workshops, lecture series, film shows, and a festival week.
 
• Women Development Cell
Women’s Development Cell aims to provide a forum for women on the campus to share information and resources, exchange ideas, promote awareness and ethics, work for gender equality and justice, and address grievances regarding gender issues including sexual harassment within the campus.
 
• Nature and Extent of involvement of faculty and students in academic affairs/ improvements
Members of Board of Studies, faculty councils meet on a regular basis to discuss and consider the necessary measures and matters affecting academic affairs and make recommendations regarding the same.
The Students Council, which is an elected body of students makes representation to the faculty council for consideration. Inputs from student feedbacks on improvements are tabled in these meetings to assist their decisions.
 
• Mechanism/Norms & Procedure for democratic/good governance
Regular meetings of the Executive Council, Deans, Faculty Councils, and Student Councils are held. Decentralization is encouraged and a committee based approach is adopted. This helps in percolating the decisions down to the Heads, Faculty and students also. It also encourages team work.
 
• Student Feedback on institutional governance/faculty performance
At the end of the semester student feedback is sought through an anonymous format for all subjects. This data is collated and the results discussed in the area committees and, if necessary, in the faculty council. The suggestions made by the stake holders are considered while framing the action plan. Feedback on institutional governance by the students is allowed through the Students’ Council.
 
• Grievance redressal mechanism for faculty, staff and students
In the view of the small size of faculty, grievance redressal mechanism for faculty grievances are addressed on a one to one basis with the Dean/HOD. Sometimes the Dean may refer the matter to the faculty council, Director or specially constituted sub-committee before taking a decision.
Staff Grievance redressal is through the Dean and Registrar, who may put it through to the Director when required.
Students may have their grievances addressed either in the individual capacity or through the Student Council to the Faculty Council, who will take the necessary steps.
