State Level Anchor Institute for Infrastructure Sector

Government of Gujarat has approved CEPT University as State Level Anchor Institute for Infrastructure Sector and has also approved some budget to operationalize the same. The activities of the Anchor Institute were formally launched with a kick-off workshop held on 3 October 2009.

The Anchor Institute concept of Government of Gujarat is one of the proactive approaches for development of need-based and readily employable managerial as well as technical manpower at various levels in the state to meet massive requirement of high quality skilled personnel for fast growing infrastructure sector including real estate. We have identified 2 nodal institutes, a degree Engineering and a Polytechnic. We are in the process of identifying some trades and ITIs in Ahmedabad, Kachchh, Bharuch and Surat districts, to start with, where major investments are committed by way of MOUs signed in Vibrant Gujarat Investors’ Summits.  The objective is to conduct need-based intensive short-term training programs across shop floor to managerial levels i.e. for managerial as well as technical – engineer, supervisory and skilled worker/ technician levels – ranging from 1 day to 2 weeks.

The developers of infrastructure projects would like to have the desired manpower (at different levels) of high quality for efficient project management. From their experience they would know gaps in skills of the personnel available at present at different levels, and skills upgradation required for project management and also for operation and maintenance of the completed projects, on-going training requirements at different levels, etc. for improved project management including

• Project formulation and development
• Project engineering – design, detailed engineering, DPR
• Project implementation
• Project management
• Operation and maintenance
• Any other aspects related to real estate projects  

Steering Committee

CEPT University, as advised by Government of Gujarat, has constituted a Steering Committee for advising and guiding to fulfill the objective of the Anchor Institute. The committee has Dr R N Vakil, Director, CEPT University as Chairman, and Shri Sunil Parekh, Adviser Zydus Group as Co Chairman.
