Objectives
CEPT University concerns itself primarily with the diversified fields of Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Planning, Housing, Urban Design, Transportation, Landscape Architecture, Construction Technology and Project Management and Interior Design. These comprise the research core and relevant breadth and depth of expertise at CEPT. Along with teaching responsibilities, faculty members of CEPT involve themselves in research projects and consultancies in these and allied areas with the purpose of:
- Furthering academic knowledge by assimilating field experience
- Offering the potentials of interactive disciplines in solving planning or building tasks
- Offering students/graduates an opportunity to learn from real life situations
- Publishing research findings for furthering understanding, adding to existing knowledge and practice
- Developing teaching materials to make available such research to wider users
Groundbreaking interdisciplinary research by the faculty feeds directly into the enhanced learning environment at the institute and provides new theoretical frameworks that enable reassessment and refinement of current practices and thinking in the profession.
A high degree of attention is paid to the breadth of the research with its focus on social and societal relevance. While some of the research is internally driven in special study areas of the faculty members, several projects are commissioned and funded by national and international organizations such as Ford Foundation, UN, World Bank, Planning Commission, Central and State ministries, and industrial agencies.
Developmental obligations impact the country in the shape of changing global conditions and local needs. CRDC attends to these societal requirements with focused expertise and research, and consultancy in these areas also enriches faculty and thereby institutional experience in these areas.
One of the missions of CEPT University is to become a resource centre in the service of the state and the profession. CRDC fulfils this mission by developing data bases and reference materials to augment academics and offering training programmes and continuing education opportunities as well as consultancy services.
