CEPT University invites you to the Let’s Talk series, a discursive platform of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.
The session will feature Sepake Angiama, Artistic Director of the Institute for International Visual Art (Iniva), London, and co-curator of the 3rd Chicago Architecture Biennial. In this lecture, Angiama will reflect on the role of the biennial as a space for spatializing pedagogy and engaging diverse publics. She will explore architecture as an expanded field of cultural production and discuss how exhibition-making can create new modes of learning, participation, and collective engagement.
The session will be moderated by Mario D’Souza, a writer and curator based between Goa and Kochi. He serves as Director of Programs at the Kochi Biennale Foundation and Co-Artistic Director at HH Art Spaces.
About the Speaker
Sepake Angiama is the Artistic Director of the Institute for International Visual Art (Iniva), London, and an internationally recognized curator and educator. Her practice explores the social and discursive frameworks through which collective knowledge is produced, with a particular focus on radical pedagogies, architecture, and socially engaged artistic practices.
As Head of Education for documenta 14, she initiated Under the Mango Tree, a self-organized platform for exploring practices of unlearning. Its second edition, held at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, brought together artist-led spaces, libraries, and educational institutions to examine decolonizing pedagogies, alternative epistemologies, indigenous knowledge systems, and practices of unlearning.
As co-curator of the 3rd Chicago Architecture Biennial, Angiama’s research focused on architects and practitioners who transform cities through pedagogy, direct action, and community engagement, expanding the role of architecture as a catalyst for social and cultural change.
