The lecture will focus on the idea of Practice’ as a capacious word. One that allows many different forms of engagement to be simultaneously relevant and valid. The talk will attempt to argue that imagining the Architecture of Practice’ (versus the Practice of Architecture) is critical for the forms of empathy we create and the spectrum of society we serve as spatial practitioners. Practice in fact is a form of Research, which is intrinsically reflexive.

About Speaker

Rahul Mehrotra is an internationally acclaimed architect, urban designer, and academic. He is the John T. Dunlop Professor in Housing and Urbanization at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, where he has also chaired the Department of Urban Planning and Design. Founder of Mumbai-based RMA Architects (est. 1990), his practice spans institutional, cultural, conservation, housing, and urban projects across India and internationally. His work includes the restoration of historic palaces in Hyderabad, the Lab of the Future in Basel, and significant civic and educational campuses. A prolific author and curator, Mehrotra has written extensively on urbanism, conservation, and the evolving idea of the Kinetic City.” His research, exhibitions, and publications have shaped contemporary discourse on architecture and urbanism in India and South Asia.
