Sachin Soni is a Senior Associate Professor at the Faculty of Architecture, CEPT University, where he has chaired the Bachelor of Architecture program for the past eight years. A full-time faculty member since 2008, he has played a significant role in shaping academic programs, studio pedagogy, and institutional initiatives within the Faculty and the University. Over the years, he has taught Architecture and Urban Design studios, History and Theory of Architecture, and Visual Studies. His teaching emphasizes careful observation, critical thinking, and rigorous design inquiry. A central area of his academic interest is the nature of architectural language, where students engage deeply with the expressive “grammar” of architecture — interpreting spatial form, materiality, light, and structure through close analysis and iterative design experimentation. His postgraduate studies in the Cities Programme, LSE sharpened his critical understanding of architecture’s role in shaping urban life. This line of inquiry continues to inform his research and design studios, particularly those exploring alternative paradigms for inclusive urban spaces and infrastructure in Indian cities.
Sachin holds a Bachelor of Architecture from CEPT University and a Master’s degree in City Design & Social Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), UK. After graduation, he practiced independently and worked with Architect Neelkanth Chhaya. Simultaneously, he started his academic journey as a visiting faculty member at NID and CEPT before joining CEPT as a fulltime faculty member. Beyond teaching, Sachin has been deeply involved in academic management at CEPT. He has contributed to and led a range of institutional initiatives, including curriculum revision, strategic discussions on institutional futures, admissions processes, international exchange programs, space planning and management, and student services. Alongside his responsibilities at CEPT, he conducts pedagogy workshops with institutions across India, focusing on studio methods and curriculum development. His sustained engagement reflects a commitment to strengthening academic frameworks and enhancing the quality of design education.
