About Savyasachi Anju Prabir

Savyasachi Anju Prabir is a filmmaker and visual anthropologist whose practice explores the intersections of cinema, artistic research, ecology, and contemporary visual culture. His films have received multiple international awards and have been screened at more than thirty film festivals. Alongside his filmmaking practice, Savyasachi has curated film programs and exhibitions that foreground emerging artistic practices and contemporary moving-image work. His pedagogy emphasizes observation, experimentation, collaborative inquiry, and critical engagement with place, materiality, and everyday life. Through studio-based learning, fieldwork, and practice-led research, he encourages students to approach moving-image practice not only as a medium of storytelling but also as a method of investigation, reflection, and knowledge production.
Savyasachi Anju Prabir holds a MA in Visual Anthropology, Media and Documentary Practices from the University of Muenster, Germany, and a B.Cr.A in Film from Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, India.Savyasachi has been a Faculty in the Discipline of Film and Video Communication at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. He also serves as the Director of the Students’ Platform at the Freiburger Filmforum, Germany and as the co-curator of the Students’ Biennale at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India.
