Grammar of Repair | Conservation as an Ecological Dialogue

Anjal Patel — MCR — Spring Semester 2025
4 5

The project introduces terraces to control loose soil erosion, bioswales as drainage and rainwater and graywater harvesting system for agricultural use, following an ecology and open space inside clusters. At cluster level, the project reactivates shared spaces, and at block level introduction of elevators and rooftop units for transit housing enhances accessibility and density. In the process, resident retrofits are not disturbed.

Conservation is a provocative act that engages actively with the built environment as a qausi-object established by the network of material, social, and spatial actions. By implanting ecological, social, and economic sustainability, conservation can play a rescuer to ensure that interventions support the ongoing relevance and feasibility of the built environment, balancing preservation with necessary transformation.
