Kill Bill, CEPT team reaches the finals in the Race to Zero competition

A team of students (10 from BEP and 5 from other programs) was chosen for the final stage of the Race to Zero competition organized by the US Department of Energy. The competition goal is for student teams to design affordable Net Zero Energy homes in a location of their choice. The finalist teams have the opportunity to travel to Colorado and present their work in person. Pooja Mundhe (M.Tech BEP 1st year) is the team leader.

The CEPT team (Team Kill Bill) chose to design an urban single family home for a higher middle class client in Jaipur. In addition to the competition goals, they also set themselves the challenge of designing a zero water discharge home that improves indoor air quality beyond ambient air in Jaipur to meet WHO standards. The design work is still in progress, and they were chosen as finalists based on their design approach, team profile, and the institutional support they have received.

The final design is due in April and the team has to develop detailed working drawings for all building systems, demonstrate performance with simulations, and do cost estimation and financial calculations to demonstrate affordability.
