Program Details
The Foundation Studio
The foundation studio in Architecture Design (MAAD) aims to set up a disciplinary impetus through a rigorous and systematic method of investigation and evaluation with considerable emphasis on method of design and making.

The larger outcome of this studio is an evocative derivation of architecture through a synthesized understanding of material, structure and construction in the context of resource and environment.

The Studio Units
The next three semesters are vertical (non-hierarchical), and students are free to choose from a basket of studios offered.
The objective of the studio units is to develop a reflective and conscious design methodology to crystallize the design process towards an essential shaping of one’s own architectural position and ideas through a basket of studios that look at :

a- crafting:

(material, construction and language)

b- situating:

(exploring context specificities )

c- relating:

(through concerns of social, cultural, economic
and ecological)

Technology courses
The technology courses provide scientific principles, methods and framework to engage in the making of the built environment.

They also technically equip professionals to engage in the systematic analysis and production of architecture using current tools and technologies.

These are disseminated through:

Course 1
Architecture as Resources:

(fundamentals of climate
responsive architecture)

Course 2
Architecture as Tectonics:

(theory and practice of details)

Course 3
Architecture as System Thinking:

(automation, parametric design
& computation)

History Courses
The history courses provide for a comprehension of the social, cultural, as well a historical debate that have a direct impact on thinking as future practitioners.

They allow perspectives vis-à-vis contemporary architecture and related developments in India- and that, within broader contexts such as Asia, as well as the world at large.

These are disseminated through:

Course-1
Contemporary Practice:

(Ideas and influence that shape the state
of architecture in
India since1990)

Course-2
Contemporary City:

(Ideas and Influence that shape contemporary city)

Course-3
Contemporary Theory:

(theory and design  relationships
of contemporary
relevance for a design practice)
