“2023 Turkey Earthquake – Performance of Structures and Causes of failures”
Highlights of the session:
This talk attempts to answer the questions based on a brief reconnaissance of the affected area in Turkey, done by the speaker in May 2023 and the study of available literature on the 2023 Turkey earthquake.

Speaker: Mr. Bhairav Patel, Owner - StrucArt Design Consultants, Ahmedabad
Profile of the speaker:
Bhairav Patel has an experience of more than 14 years in the profession of Structural Engineering and has worked on structural design of a variety of structures. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Nirma Institute of Technology and a Master’s degree in Structural Design from CEPT University. After having gained valuable experience in structural design, while working with VMS Consultants for a period of 4 years, Bhairav started his own practice in 2012. Since then, he had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects involving different materials like glulam timber, Bamboo, masonry etc. along with conventional concrete and steel structures.
Bhairav is also fond of teaching and has been involved as a visiting faculty at CEPT University since 2009. He has taught subjects related to “Earthquake resistant Design Studio'', “Form, Materials and Structures'', “Design aspects of tall buildings'', “Design of load-bearing masonry structures'' etc. to under-graduate and postgraduate students.
This expert session is jointly coordinated by the Faculty of Technology and IAStructE CEPT student chapter, CEPT University. It is open to all.
