Henk van der Veen is a T.U.Delft graduate, who initiated Archiprix in the Netherlands in 1979. He set up Archiprix Netherlands as a platform for talented graduates in the field of Architecture to give them the exposure that matches their creative talents. In the 80-ies and 90-ies Archiprix Netherlands started to attract European graduate projects, swiftly followed by an interest of students all over the world. The fields also expanded with Urban Design and Landscape Architecture.
In 2001 Rotterdam was the Cultural Capital of Europe and Archiprix decided to go International. This turned out to be a success and a series of International Archiprix-es followed. Every two years an event takes place and Hunter Douglas has been the sponsor of Archiprix International since Rotterdam 2003. The event has travelled the world via Istanbul (2003), Glasgow (2005), Shanghai (2007), Montevideo/Brasil (2009), Cambridge/USA (2011), Moscow (2013) and Spain (2015).
About Archiprix
Archiprix International forms the largest presentation of graduation work and offers unrivalled insight into current trends in design education globally and architecture generally.
Every two years an independent international jury selects from the very best graduate projects submissions of the world approximately 7 winners who share the approximately 15.000 Euro (approx. Rs 10 lakh) prize money and receive a Hunter Douglas Award object. The aim of the awards is to stimulate the introduction of starting, talented designers into the world of professional practice.
Archiprix Director Henk van der Veen is taking Archiprix for the first time to South Asia as the 2017 version will be hosted by CEPT University, Ahmedabad, India and he will talk about his 'Archiprix Journey' coming Thursday 15 Oct. at 6.30 pm at CEPT auditorium.
The initiative reflects rapid international developments in the design disciplines. Recent decades have seen an explosive growth in the scale of international contact, resulting in lively exchanges world-wide. Increasing numbers of designers work on commissions abroad, professional journals are published on an international scale, and training colleges are becoming more and more international in their orientation.
Archiprix International forms an expanding international platform for training colleges and newly graduated, talented designers. Its network currently consists of 1600 Universities in the world and it spotlights international trends in architecture, urban design and landscape architecture and brings designers together.
