On the successful completion of the first year of an Indian rocket’s successful launch into orbit, the Radar Imaging Satellite (RISAT-1) from the spaceport in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, the students of Geomatics at CEPT U together with faculty members organized a Brainstorming Session on Saturday, 27 April 2013. The satellite has successfully completed one year without any technical problems. Images produced from this satellite gives information of features in terms of amplitude, phase and polarization.
The invited members at the session were senior scientists from Space Applications Centre, senior faculty members from NIRMA, PDPU, Gujarat University, M. G. Science College and H K Arts College totaling more than 40. The program began with briefing about the launch of RISAT-1 by Dr. Tapan Misra, Deputy Director, MRSA, SAC. Information was given on the capabilities, applications, costing and the availability of the microwave imagery for applications and implications for academics. The brainstorming session ended with a task for the professional societies such as ISG and ISRS to explore the research opportunities where academia and scientists work together.
