Winners of ARCHIPRIX International / Hunter Douglas Awards 2017

‘Our profession is a big tent where many can prosper’

Archiprix International is a biennial competition that showcases the world's best graduation projects selected by universities all over the world. Each competition presents a new generation of the world's top designers. The ninth Archiprix International event was organized in cooperation with CEPT University, Ahmedabad. Archiprix International is supported by Hunter Douglas and Creative Industries Fund NL.

From the 385 graduation projects designed by 469 young architects, landscape architects and urban designers that were submitted for the Archiprix International Ahmedabad 2017, an international jury nominated 23 projects for the 2017 Hunter Douglas Archiprix Awards. Out of these nominees, 8 winners were selected and announced at the award ceremony on Friday 10 February on the campus of CEPT University, Ahmedabad, India.

The winners of the Hunter Douglas Awards 2017 (in alphabetical order):

Emanuel Astete, Ship Construction Museum. Celebrating the naval identity of Valdivia

The winners receive an award object and prize money.

The jury members for Archiprix International 2017 were: Bimal Patel (India) - architect, HCP Design Planning and Management, president of CEPT University in Ahmedabad, and chairman of the Archiprix International jury; Frida Escobedo (Mexico) - architect, studio Frida Escobedo; Yttje Feddes (Netherlands) - landscape architect Feddes/Olthof, former government advisor on landscape; Marina Tabassum (Bangladesh) – architect, Marina Tabassum Architects; and Steven Smith (Great Britain) - architect/urbanist, Urban Narrative.

Exhibition

All 385 submitted projects and specially made models of the 23 nominated projects will be on display in the brand-new CEPT library from 10 February to 1 March 2017. Also on show are the results of the workshop ‘Making Habitat - Megacity, Micronarratives’ and the winter school ‘Model Making’.

Book

A representative selection of the projects submitted, including the nominees and winners and the favourites chosen by the participants, has been published in the book Archiprix International Ahmedabad 2017, The World’s Best Graduation Projects Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape.

About Archiprix International

Archiprix International is a biennial competition. Since 2001, the best graduation projects were submitted by 873 universities, half of all universities in the world. In total, 2344 graduation projects designed by 2802 young architects, landscape architects and urban designers were submitted.

The initiative reflects the rapid international development of the design disciplines, and forms an expanding international platform for training colleges and newly graduated, talented designers. Moreover, it spotlights international trends in architecture, urban design and landscape architecture, and brings designers together.

The first edition of Archiprix International/Hunter Douglas Awards took place in 2001 in Rotterdam (Netherlands), followed by Istanbul (Turkey) in 2003, Glasgow (Scotland) in 2005, Shanghai (China) in 2007, Montevideo (Uruguay) in 2009, Cambridge (USA) in 2011, Moscow (Russia) in 2013, and Madrid (Spain) in 2015.
