About the Doctoral Office

The Doctoral Office at CEPT University supports and administers PhD programs with an objective to prepare the scholars towards advanced research and training, aiming to contribute towards creating new knowledge in their area of study.

CEPT offers PhD programs in the Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Planning and Faculty of Technology. The programs aspire to build up core competencies like research capabilities, critical thinking and writing, preparedness for publishing, and communication through rigorous coursework.

The optimum duration of the PhD program is four and a half years. The first year of the program is devoted to coursework, requiring full-time residency. During the residency, students shall get an opportunity to engage in teaching and/​or professional research. After successful completion of the coursework, there will be qualifying exams to test competency in the field/​discipline and in the area of specialization. After successfully clearing the qualifying exams, students will be awarded the status of ​‘PhD Candidate’. Thereafter, candidates would prepare and defend a research proposal within a maximum period of one semester. During the candidacy period, candidates will work in consultation with their Dissertation Advisory Committee. Upon clearing this stage, the candidates will get two and half years to complete the PhD dissertation. 

TEN Doctoral Research Scholarships & Fellowships are available for applicants in the doctoral programs at CEPT University.

1. Doctoral Program in the Faculty of Technology | CRDF-CARBSE: Applicants of the Doctoral Program at the Faculty of Technology, in the stream of Building Energy Performance (BEP), are eligible to apply for the Doctoral Research Fellowship under the PhD Support Program instituted by the CEPT Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) through the Centre for Advanced Research in Building Science and Energy (CARBSE). The fellowship support will be provided in the form of technical assistance, research and infrastructure support, and complete financial support for the entire duration of the doctoral studies. In addition, selected students will be offered a Doctoral Research Fellow position at CARBSE.

2. Doctoral Program in the Faculty of Planning | CUPDF: CEPT Urban Planning and Design Foundation (CUPDF), a Centre of Excellence under CEPT University offers Doctoral Research Fellowship in the areas of urban planning and urban design for doctoral scholars at the Faculty of Planning. Fellowship support shall be provided in the form of coverage of the doctoral program registration fee and a monthly stipend for the first two years, subject to an annual review of performance. Continuation of the fellowship beyond this period shall be contingent upon the Centre’s review and approval process. The monthly stipend shall range from ₹50,000 to ₹70,000, depending on the candidate’s prior experience.

3. All the Doctoral Programs | President’s Scholarship: The applicants are eligible for a President’s Scholarship, amounting to *Rs 40,000 per month during the coursework residency period. The selection for this scholarship is based on their performance during the admission process.

There will be an opportunity to work on campus as teaching or research associates or tutors, as applicable, for students outside the fellowship programs. They shall be paid as per the University norms for each position.
