Prayanam — Fleeting Waves and a Continuum of Memory

The idea of sacred is often looked as revealing something beyond oneself. But isn’t sacred one’s closest connection to the truth? Isn’t truth the identity of introspection of oneself? The project introduces a transcendental path through a space of worship that absorbs the land and immerses into the water as a series of spaces of pause. This fosters a new, introspective connection between the street and the river. A journey of oneness unfolds. The material plane detaches. The axis mundi opens up. Elements of nature take over. The land meets water. Yet, one pauses. To look around. Then to look within.

Idea of the project was to reinvigorate a sense of memory in a community where a generational craft was seemingly fading away. The tying thread of spaces of worship as a community condenser was used as an anchor. Through this, a journey of oneness unfolds. The material plane detaches. The axis mundi opens up. Elements of nature take over. The land meets water. Yet, one pauses. To look around. Then to look within.

The aspect of community and self was bridged by introducing a new path, a journey through a space of worship that opens as a series of spaces of pause that gets embedded into the ground and finally inmerses into the river. A so comes prayanam: of fleeting waves and a continuum of memory.
