This book is a primer to understand various urban components of Indian cities. It unravels each component (such as streets, built form, municipal services, housing etc) one by one and unpacks conceptual lenses and key debates in each chapter.

This book is a foundational reading for urban practitioners, students, academics and researchers. The book is developed based on the Foundation Studio work for the Urban Planning students at CEPT University. It presents pedagogical principles and conceptual basis for designing a studio framework for Masters programs for a wider audience. It is essential that an intimate understanding of Indian cities is developed before planning them. This book contributes in that direction producing India-specific knowledge.
