Dr. Tridip Suhrud has been appointed as Professor and Director of CEPT Archives. He has joined in this new role from 1st October 2017.
Dr. Suhrud is a renowned scholar in the field of political science and cultural history. He has extensively worked on the life and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi and the social and cultural history of modern Gujarat. Prior to joining CEPT University, Dr. Suhrud was serving as the Director & Chief Editor of Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust, where he was also responsible for setting up of the Gandhi Archives. His past academic affiliations include the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, the DAIICT, Gandhi Nagar, and the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. Dr. Suhrud is the Chairman of the Governing council of MICA.
Dr. Suhrud has translated various literary and social science texts between Gujarati and English. He was given the Katha Award (1999) and Sahitya Akademi Award (2010) for his translation work. Some of his recent work includes, multi-volume project of translating and editing the Diaries of Manu Gandhi in association with the National Archives of India and a twenty-volume archival project "Letters to Gandhi" at the archives of Sabarmati Ashram, Rashtravaad, Rabindranath Tagore, four volume Gujarati Novel Saraswati Chandra by Govardhanram Tripathi , Beloved Bapu: the Mirabehn-Gandhi correspondence (with Thomas Weber), Gandhiji Ni Rojnishi (with notes and introduction), Hind Swaraj ek Anushilan (in Hindi, 2014), Kavi Ni Choki, (Gujarati, 2012) a bilingual edition of M K Gandhi's Hind Swaraj (with Suresh Sharma) and works of Ashis Nandy and Ganesh Devy into Gujarati and novelist Suresh Joshi into English.He has been the Series Editor for Gandhi Studies, Orient Black Swan.
Dr. Suhrud has been a member of various institutional bodies like Society of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Nominee of the Government of India, Governing Council, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, Gandhi Heritage Sites Mission, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, International Centre for Human Development, Think Tank - Gandhi Heritage, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
As the Director of CEPT Archives Dr. Suhrud has been charged with strengthening the archival efforts at CEPT and make it a useful repository for students and scholars. Dr. Suhrud will oversee the functioning of CEPT Archives and will work towards the expansion of the infrastructural facilities, by introducing additional segregated storage, conservation labs, library, museum, permanent exhibition and better environmental controls.
