Under this umbrella, we get a chance to invite experts from diverse arenas which will benefit students of FT and CEPT, further broadening to academicians and professionals.
With this, we would like to invite you to join us for the fourth session of the FT knowledge series, on
“The Spirit of Gravity” by Mr. B L Manjunath
Highlights of the session:
The quote from a physicist - "Gravity is the hidden geometry of space." This quote has provoked me to look at density as an important factor in working towards or against gravity and the way it is positioned on this Earth. The way I look at buildings, every life which resists gravity has a very similar skeleton which enhances the growth of life on this Earth that is dictated by many external forces. With this very fact of commonality or seamlessness as part of the growth, why can't the built form follow a similar pattern of growing a building rather than assembling the elements to make a building. So, to grow a building we need to be concerned with forces which you don't see to be able to seamlessly visualize to create. It becomes so important as how we need to touch the ground to respond to what we create. I believe in the choice of materials which are natural, which belong to this Earth, has an ability to absorb experience and emotion as a process of growing, to create a healthy building with zero redundancy and respond to the environment. As a part of this talk, Manjunath will talk about the design philosophy behind evolution of structural systems for some of his unique projects.

Profile of the speaker:
Mr. BL. Manjunath is an Engineer having experience of more than 25 years in Structural engineering design and Construction and Management. He completed his graduation and post-graduation in Civil Engineering from University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering- Bangalore in the year 1985. The glimpses of versatility in his design can be seen from various notable projects such as IIIT-Bangalore, National Military War Memorial, Azim Premji Foundation-Schools and District Institutes across India, Farmhouse for Aditya Birla Group – Bangalore, Raas hotel- Jodhpur, Myra School of Business and many more such projects.
This expert session is jointly coordinated by the Faculty of Technology and IAStructE CEPT student chapter, CEPT University. It is open to all.
