CEPT Students Reimagine Street Design Through Full-Scale Urban Intervention

As part of the Foundation Program at CEPT University, A group of 35 students from the Bachelor of Urban Design (BUD) program batch of 2024 – 25 carried out a unique, full-scale street design intervention.

Guided by faculty lead Pranav Meghani, the project aimed to improve the everyday urban experience through hands-on learning and direct public engagement.

The students began with detailed site observations and conversations with local users — vendors, pedestrians, and residents — to identify issues and design opportunities. These insights informed a context-sensitive proposal, which they implemented at a 1:1 scale, translating their ideas into real-world spatial solutions.

Executed entirely by the students, the intervention helped them navigate material choices, construction challenges, and detailing. A bold use of yellow in the design made the space stand out and drew the public in, inviting interaction and curiosity.

The installation remained open for three days, serving as a live urban lab where users could experience the redesigned space and share feedback. This gave students valuable insights into how design is received and adapted in context.

The project demonstrated the importance of prototyping, making, and public engagement in urban design and offered a replicable model for creating more inclusive, people-centric streetscapes
