FA: Recording and Documentation of Cultural Heritage

A seminar on Recording and Documentation of Cultural Heritage was held at CEPT University on August 11, 2018. It was organised as part of a collaboration between Conservation Area at Faculty of Architecture, CEPT and Department of Archaeology, University of York, UK.

Six eminent experts in the field of cultural heritage conservation and technology from India and UK presented their research and professional experiences during the seminar. The experts talked about the importance of heritage recording and documentation as a basis of sound Conservation practice. The presentations included case studies on documentation of construction details, vernacular buildings, monuments, world heritage sites and urban heritage using various technologies like metric surveys, Photogrammetry, 3D laser scanning, GIS mapping etc. The speakers emphasised the importance of carefully choosing the tools technology based on a clear understanding of the purpose of recording and available resources to get appropriate results. The potential benefits of public participation and engaging citizens in conservation and documentation of heritage were also discussed. The presentations were followed by interaction with the audience which further generated interesting discussions.

The seminar was attended by many faculty members and students from the University who found it very informative and a great start for the new academic year. The Conservation Area at Faculty of Architecture, CEPT aims to keep organising such academic events to foster training, knowledge and research exchanges in the area of Conservation.
