Launch of New MoHUA Initiative

Shri Durga Shanker Mishra, IAS, (Secretary of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs) launched the first workshop on “The formulation of Local Area Planning and Town Planning Schemes,” at CEPT University Ahmedabad on 8 Sept. The workshop, which will be anchored by Shri Shiv Das Meena, Joint Secretary in the Ministry, will have senior Secretaries, CEOs of Urban Development Authorities, representatives of Municipal Corporations and senior planners from 25 selected of India. In July 2018, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt. of India launched a pilot project on the formulation of Local Area Planning and Town Planning Schemes. This will cover 25 cities at a cost of Rs.50 crores. The central theme of the Pilot is the implementation of the Town Planning Schemes based on the land pooling method which has been prevalent in Gujarat for almost a century. The Ministry has also selected CEPT University to be the national Anchor Institute to provide technical support to the Town and Country Planning Organisation of the Govt of India as well as the cities.

CEPT will also organise a series of capacity building programmes for the officials of each of the cities. The day long workshop will discuss the methodology of implementing Town Planning Schemes, deliberate on using these techniques for the orderly development and expansion of cities and share experiences across cities.

Presentations will also be made by Shri Paresh Sharma, Chief Town Planner, Govt of Gujarat and by Dr Bimal Patel, President , CEPT University. The participants will also use the opportunity to visit TP Schemes of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority and exchange views with the Town Planning and Valuation Department of the Govt of Gujarat.
