CEPT Press First Book Launch - Building with Fire, by Ray Meeker

On 2 Sep, the first book of the new CEPT University Press, “Building with fire” by Ray Meeker, was launched at the Indian Ceramic Triennial. The book is a compilation of Meeker’s best studio ceramics, with some essays that accompanied his show catalogs. The title ‘Building with Fire,’ is meant to underline a technique where fire is introduced into the construction processes as ‘cement’, for bonding building elements together permanently. With a background in ceramics and architecture from the University of Southern California, potter, teacher and sometimes-architect Ray Meeker co-founded the Golden Bridge Pottery with Deborah Smith in Pondicherry, India, in 1971. This book is primarily a visual narrative of the technical developments through all of his various projects and the Golden Bridge Pottery as the backdrop.

This book also marks the launch of CEPT University Press, which promotes writing and research on architecture, planning, design, technology and management of human habitats with a focus on South and Southeast Asia. Set up to open up ideas and debate, CEPT Press titles explore new paths of knowledge and contribute to theoretical formulation, pedagogy and practice of architecture and design of habitats.
