A: Bachelor's in civil engineering (honours) program at the Faculty of Technology, CEPT University is a unique engineering program in India focused on creative problem-solving skills and technological innovation in the construction industry. This program works at the intersection of allied disciplines of the built environment, such as architecture, planning, design, and management. BCE program focuses on developing professional capacities through working in realistic situations and live projects using the 'studio' pedagogy. This pedagogy equips students with the skills necessary for being competent interdisciplinary professional engineer and exposes them to the technical, managerial, and social dimensions of Civil Engineering.

For details on the program, the program brochure can be downloaded here.

A: BCE is the only civil engineering program in India that follows studio-based teaching and learning pedagogy.

All students admitted to the undergraduate programs of CEPT University (Architecture, Planning, Design, and Technology) study together and undergo rigorous training during the 1st year (level 1) with the CEPT foundation program (CFP). To know more about CFP click here.

From 2nd year onwards, the program introduces students to the major aspects of civil engineering, namely structural engineering, fluid mechanics, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, transportation engineering, and construction engineering and management. The second and third years are designated as level 2, and focus on developing the skills of analysing, designing, constructing, and specifying. The 4th and 5th years are at level 3, focusing on developing the skills of complex problem-solving through the construction of rational arguments. In the studios- at level 2 and level 3, students engage with well-designed, realistic, and practical problems through studio courses, which are designed and conducted collaboratively with established professionals. The portfolio at the end of each studio presents the rationale for the final design through visuals and written communication.

The studios are supported by fundamental courses in civil engineering, such as Applied Mathematics, Concrete Technology, Solid Mechanics, Construction Technology, Fluid Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Analysis and Design of Structures, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Project Management, and Building Energy Efficiency. Students understand established theories through practical application in laboratory-based testing of materials, soil, and environmental parameters. Students are also apprised of modern surveying and leveling techniques using various instruments, including drones.

The program further prepares students for real-world experience by placing them in professional training programs at various civil engineering companies/projects and consultancy firms across India for a complete semester. Students also have the opportunity to participate in exchange programs and research projects under eminent faculty members.

After completing the program, each student emerges as an innovative problem-solver and critical thinker with a rich professional portfolio of 8 detailed projects, thereby entering the professional world with a head start.

The detailed course curriculum is available here.

A: About 80% of the course faculty are visiting faculty members, experienced professionals passionate about knowledge transfer. Apart from that, the 3 major domains of collaborations are within the industry (Directed Research Projects, Placements, and/or Internships), International Universities for exchange programs, and Students' Chapters with professional associations.

A: In the last 4 years, 19 students from the BCE program took advantage of a student exchange opportunity. At present, the active student exchange programs are with the following Universities -

  1. University of Melbourne - Australia
  2. Polis University - Albania
  3. HFT Stuttgart University - Germany
  4. Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco (IPCB) – Portugal
  5. Polimi University – Italy

A: Our students work as construction engineers, design professionals, researchers, and construction managers for the most successful corporations in India and abroad. The alumni of the Civil Engineering program represent the best resources in the construction industry. They have risen to the highest professional levels in this field. Recent recruiters include Shapoorji Pallonji, JLL, Visilean, Techture, V-Construct, Trine Projects, Fuji Silvertech, Orbis, Arcadia group, Atkins, BMT Consultants, MEGA, Egis,.

Many of our students also undertake higher studies at some of the best universities in the world. Some universities include New York University, TU Delft, University of Texas (Austin), Texas A & M University, Columbia University, Purdue University, University of Sydney, Deakin University, University College of London, IITs, and many more.

A: Please refer to the Seats and Eligibility  on the Admissions page

A: Please see the Seats and Eligibility section on the Admissions page.

A: For the BCE program, both GUJCET (for Gujarat Government seats) and JEE Mains Paper-1 (For University Seats) of the corresponding year are eligible tests.

A: Yes. You will need to fill out separate application forms for each of these. For University seats through JEE, you can apply through CEPT website. For Government seats you will need to apply through ACPC and give preference to BCE (Hons) program in Faculty of Technology, CEPT University.

A: You will have to apply at: http://admissions.cept.ac.in

A: You should select any one subject from the dropdown menu in which you have obtained the maximum marks.

A: The program has a two-stage admission process –
Stage 1 - Scrutiny for eligibility
Stage 2 – Preparation of merit list
