The Hon. Finance Minister’s budget speech of 2022-23, announced an endowment fund for developing India-specific knowledge in urban planning and design. This fund was for institutions designated as Centres of Excellence (CoE) in urban planning and design identified through a competitive selection process. After following the due process, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India selected CEPT University as the only private university among the four institutions identified as CoEs.
CEPT University’s CoE is housed within CEPT Urban Planning and Design Foundation (CUPDF), a not-for-profit company of the university. CUPDF is expected to generate knowledge and build capacities to help improve the practice in the fields of urban planning and design. It works to make urban planning and design more effective by conducting research on practically relevant questions in the field, and by training professionals and officials. It aims to provide deep insights into difficult and important problems of urban development in Indian cities.
About the Position:
The Research Intern position is one where the candidate will support ongoing research studies at CUPDF to analyze built projects and development regulations. The intern will work with datasets related to plots, buildings, floor areas, and associated parameters. This role involves collecting, structuring, and analyzing spatial and numerical data to provide insights for urban research.
Other tasks on the job may include:
- Analyze data, create maps and visual representations
- Extract insights on floor space utilization across cities
- Research building regulations and planning policies to assess their impact
- Contribute to research reports, presentations, etc. summarizing findings from the study.
Reports to: Head / Deputy Head / Chair of Research at CUPDF
Essential Qualifications and Requirements:
- Currently pursuing or completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in urban planning/ urban design /architecture or a related field
- Basic analytical skills and understanding of building regulations, FSI and built-up area calculations
- Proficient with AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator or similar tools
- Showcase the ability to work well in multi-disciplinary small to medium sized teams, balance multiple priorities, and work under tight deadlines
- Strong time management and coordination skills
