Celebrating 100 Years of Bruno Souza, a pioneering Goan Architect
Free, Open to all

CEPT Archives in collaboration with Goa Collective and Goa College of Architecture has organized the exhibition “Celebrating 100 Years of Bruno Souza” that presents material from their collection of Souza and places it alongside contemporary perspectives on his work.
Through the work of Souza, it aims to explore how regional modern identities were forged and adapted to varying climatic, cultural and political conditions challenging a singular modernist narrative across the globe, including India.
Souza’s reach is far and wide, with his education at Columbia and Harvard University in the 1950s, having practised in Portuguese Goa as well as post-independence India, where he collaborated with prominent practices of the modern era, like Kanvinde and Rai, and Master, Sathe and Kothari, besides having served as Director of the School of Planning and Architecture in the 1980s. He also held key roles with ICOMOS, UNESCO and the World Bank contributing to planning and educational initiatives across Africa and Asia.
Marking his centenary, this exhibition at CEPT University traces the many contexts in which he worked in bringing together archival material and contemporary documentation to reflect on the layered modernities that shaped his life and practice.
