Program brief

The Master’s in Architecture (Housing Design) at CEPT treats housing as a complex architectural problem shaped by markets, society, and regulation. Through a choice-based, studio-driven structure, we enable you to design your own academic trajectory while engaging both speculative futures and real-world housing challenges.

Housing education in architecture schools often collapses into extremes- either a technocratic exercise focused on delivery and compliance, or a speculative pursuit detached from economic, social, and regulatory realities. Our program positions itself deliberately against this split.

The program is built on the belief that housing becomes architecturally meaningful only when markets and society, pragmatism and speculation, are engaged together rather than treated as opposites. Structured as a fully choice-based, ‘design your own master’s’ program, it offers you a choiceof four contrasting studios and multiple courses each semester across two years. These range from speculative explorations of future housing scenarios to real-site projects involving government agencies, NGOs, and market actors.

Design is the primary mode of inquiry; while regulations, finance, and governance are approached as design variables rather than external constraints. The program is intended for students who wish to question and reshape contemporary housing practices, and not simply learn to operate within them.
