Full Time TA Positions Open - FP PG Foundation Studio 2024

The Faculty of Planning(FP) Postgraduate (PG) Foundation Studio 2024 begins this Monsoon Semester (1st July - 31st December 2024). The Foundation Studio is the first studio at the Master’s level for all the students enrolled in Master’s in Housing, Transportation Systems, Urban Planning, Infrastructure, and Urban Design. The studio seeks to build core competencies, skill sets, and a deep understanding of urban settlements for future urban planners, designers, and policymakers. The studio is called 'Understanding the City' studio. The studio has about 156 students divided into 10 studio units. Each studio unit is led by one faculty member and supported by one full-time teaching associate.

As part of the teaching team for the Foundation Studio, we are currently looking for  10 Teaching Associates (TAs) with a couple of people on the waiting list. The TAs form an integral part of the daily operations and management of the studio while also assisting faculty members in carrying out academic exercises. Teaching Associates can be recent graduates from Architecture, Planning, and Urban Design or any related Master’s degree. Candidates from other fields shall also be considered on a case-to-case basis. The job details are as follows:

Position: Full-time Teaching Associate for Foundation Studio 2024

Faculty: Faculty of Planning, CEPT University

Job Duration: 24th June 2024 – 24th December 2024 / Full-time (one-year full-time contracts are negotiable for good candidates)

Remuneration: As per University pay bands (approx. Rs.38000 - 50000 per month based on experience)

Minimum Qualifications: Masters Degree in Architecture, Urban Design or Urban Planning or Masters degree in the related fields. 

Work Experience Required: 0-5 years

Report to - Foundation Sem Chair (Dr Rutul Joshi), Studio Coordinator (Dr Nitika Bhakuni)

TA for the Foundation Studio is a full-time commitment (8.5 hours/5 day work week). You cannot take up any other professional work from 24th June 2024 – 24th December 2024 during your full-time contract at CEPT.

TAs Roles and Responsibilities include :

  1. A faculty member will teach 15 students in one of the studio units. The TA will assist them in the unit by being a bridge between students and faculty. 
  2. The TA will also be part of the international field studio (Winter School) in December 2024. However, only the TAs who have performed well during the semester in the studio will be part of the international winter school. 
  3. Be punctual, organized, and sincere about the task assigned, and lead by example for the group of 15 students. 
  4. The TA will assist faculty members in course/exercise preparations and conducting studio sessions and weekly evaluations. This would also include taking up preparatory exercises trial runs a month before the studio starts. Before the studio begins, the TA should have a working knowledge of GIS, Autocad, Photoshop, Sketchup, and any other required software. 
  5. The TA should be able to engage in independent sessions with the students about specific skills, studio exercises, and various urban planning/design concepts. 
  6. Communicating with students and addressing their concerns and queries during non-studio hours but within the office hours.
  7. Conduct training sessions with the studio to teach them specific skills/softwares
  8. Preparing studio manuals and course materials for students.
  9. Coordinating with the FP Admin Team to reserve equipment and spaces, setting up schedules for reviews, and other logistics for running the studio.
  10. Coordinate with other studio teams on day-to-day operations and other events related to the studio.
  11. You will work on the studio and related assignments for about 32-35 hours/week. For the rest of the 10-12 hours, you may be assigned an additional subject or any other responsibilities or tasks by the Foundation Sem Chair or the studio coordinator.

Shortlisted candidates shall be called for an interview. Interview dates shall be announced soon. The candidates outside Ahmedabad can join online for the interview.
