CEPT University, established in 1962, is focused on understanding, designing, planning, constructing and managing human habitat. Its teaching programs are designed to build thoughtful professionals and its research programs aim to deepen the understanding of human habitat. CEPT University also undertakes advisory projects to further the goal of making habitats more livable. Faculties at the University function as a collaborative of full-time faculty members and highly engaged practitioners who share teaching and institutional responsibilities.

CEPT University Workshop plays an integral role in supporting learning through hands-on experimentation, exploration of materials, model making and prototyping. The workshop has dedicated facilities for working in wood, metal, ceramic, textile, model-making and a Fabrication-Lab. The main focus of CEPT University Workshop is to deepen the culture of ‘Learning by Making’. The safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors is a principal consideration in every activity. The Workshop provides equipment, facilities, staff, mentoring and support to all students and faculty of CEPT University and members for innovation through material-based research. The workshop, spread over 11625 sq. ft, is equipped with state-of-the-art computer controlled (CNC) machines, including a 3-axis milling machine, 3D printer, laser cutter, electric kilns, weaving looms, a wide array of traditional metal and woodworking machinery with a range of power and hand tools.

The workshop is staffed with technicians, faculty and experts who instruct and guide students in the use of the equipment. This will help students bring their projects to life, from model making to full-size construction of furniture and architectural elements.

CEPT University invites applications for the position of FabLab Assistant, CEPT Workshop. We are looking for professionals who possess excellent technical skills, analytical and communication skills with an understanding of various operative processes at the university level.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage machines and its maintenance and operations.
  • Understand files for fabrication and give feedback to students online.
  • Basic materials knowledge for operational work.
  • Give orientation/ training to students on Machines. Teach Dos and Don'ts of the Machine in detail.
  • Work with the team, tutors, and student assistants.

 

Academic Qualification & Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Design/ Engineering/ Architecture
  • 1-3 years of experience in digital fabrication machines like 3D printers, laser cutter and CNC machines is required
  • Knowledge of basic electronics will be a plus.

 

Expertise Required

  • Experience in Digital Fabrication: CAD/CAM, 3D printing, CNC milling, laser cutting, etc. including machine operation.
  • Programming, Electronics and mechanics knowledge will be appreciated.
  • Excellent oral communication and Teaching skills.
  • Communication skills in Hindi and/or English.
  • Operational and maintenance of 3D printers, laser cutting and CNC machines will be appreciated.
