Admission Procedures

Procedure for Admissions to Master’s in Computational Design and Fabrication (MCDF) Program, Faculty of Design for the Academic year 2026 – 27

National Applicants 

All applicants for the MCDF program in the general category shall have a minimum of 50% aggregate marks and reserved category shall have a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in a qualifying degree (or equivalent) from a UGC recognised University / Institution in their undergraduate program.

Qualifying Certificates (Degree / Diploma)

Applicants with undergraduate degree/diploma (4 years or more) such as Bachelors in Architecture / Bachelors in Urban Design / Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Product Design / Diploma in Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Product Design / Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Production, Automobile, Environmental, Plastic or Polymer Engineering are eligible.

Applicants having other undergraduate qualifications apart from those mentioned above are welcome to apply provided that their program is considered equivalent to a Degree Program by the Equivalence Committee of CEPT University.

International/Foreign Applicants 

All applicants for the MCDF program shall have a minimum of 50 % aggregate marks in the qualifying degree (or equivalent) from a recognised University / Institution in their undergraduate program.

Applicants having other undergraduate qualifications apart from those mentioned above are welcome to apply provided that their program is considered equivalent to a Degree Program by the Equivalence Committee of CEPT University.

Sponsored Candidates 

General Eligibility 

1. All Applicants for the MCDF program in the general category shall have a minimum of 50 % aggregate marks in a qualifying certificates (degree/diploma) (or equivalent) from a recognized University / Institution in their undergraduate program.

2. Applicants should have a minimum of 5 years of overall experience as of the last date of application of the year in which the application is made, with at least two years in service of the organisation sponsoring his study. This organisation can be academic, industrial, or research-based in the relevant field for which the candidate is seeking admission.

Qualifying Certificates (Degree / Diploma)

Applicants with undergraduate degree/diploma (4 years or more) in Architecture, Urban Design, Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Product Design, Civil Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Production, Automobile, Environmental, Plastic or Polymer Engineering are eligible.

Application Information & Requirements

The application shall consist of the following:

  1. A completed application form. 
  2. Self-attested Degree certificates and mark sheets for all semesters. Applicants receiving grades as GPA/CGPA need to send the document indicating equivalent percentage marks or a document indicating the relationship of GPA/CGPA with percentage marks as per their university/ institute along with all the mark sheets. Applicants studying in the final semester need to submit all the mark sheets till the penultimate semester. (Admission is provisional until the submission of the final degree/diploma certificate)
  3. Curriculum Vitae. 
  4. Academic and/ or Professional experience certificates. 
  5. References from two referees who know you well. (Online reference letters to be filled and sent directly by the referee). The referee should be able the upload the reference letters till 3 days after the last date to apply.
  6. Portfolio: Attach 10 pages of A4 size in landscape format as a single PDF file. File size should be at most 25 MB and 150 dpi maximum. Please note that pages after the first 10 pages in your portfolio, as specified, may not be considered for evaluation. Applicants must ensure that all contents in their portfolios are legible.

    *Note: All applications received will be scrutinised based on information provided/uploaded in the application forms in order to verify the eligibility criteria and be considered for further stages of the admissions process.

National Students 

The entire evaluation process shall be done in two stages. It is mandatory to appear for both stages of the admission process. Evaluation of each applicant will be based on the following parameters.

Stage 1

Evaluation Criteria

Stage 2

  1. CEPT PG Test (Online)
  2. Online Interview

Stage 1 – Eligibility Check and Shortlist 

All applications will be screened at this stage in the following manner:

An evaluation committee will be set up by the program to assess documents and portfolios to shortlist eligible applicants for the program.

Assessment Criteria
Academic performance is counted based on the percentage of marks achieved by the applicant.

B. Work Experience
Assessment Criteria
An applicant’s work experience will be assessed based on the details given in the application form. Internships as part of the course work for credits or semester prerequisites will not be counted for total accumulated work experience. The cut-off for counting work experience for an ongoing work position of a candidate shall be considered as the last date to apply irrespective of date of submitting your application

C. Portfolio
The portfolio is a synopsis of one’s creative work. As a visual essay, it tells the story of a person’s interests, skills, and development over time. It should include projects that express one’s best creative abilities.

Applicants from non-design backgrounds may include work relevant to their domain, whilst showcasing interest, intent or engagement with innovation, research, sustainability, and /or creative processes.

Assessment Criteria

  • The portfolio should contain samples of academic work, professional work, thesis report, seminar, research paper, internship report and independent work. Portfolio in digital format must be uploaded as a single PDF file no longer than 25 MB and 150 dpi maximum.
  • Work that demonstrate  manual and digital proficiency. This will include exploration done in terms of software, representation tools, and mediums.
  • Work that demonstrates any workshop-based outputs in the form of models, prototypes, material explorations, hands-on work, etc.
  • Projects with professional engagement in terms of real world problems/ opportunities.

The portfolio for non-design background applicants will be evaluated based on work quality and relevance to the applied program, in consideration to the work relevant to their domain and that showcases interest, intent or engagement with innovation, research, sustainability, and /or creative processes.

Stage 2 

All candidates will have to appear in person for the CEPT PG Test (Online) and subsequent online interview. The final merit list for the seats will be prepared based on the total marks obtained until Stage 2.

The candidates will be required to submit the following:

  • Sponsorship Certificate and/or No Objection certificate from the last employer • Proof of Employment that may include the following:

1. Appointment letter

2. Form No. 16 for the last two years from the last employer

3. Experience certificate(s) indicating minimum experience of 5 years 4. Any other proof as deemed necessary by the committee.

A separate merit list will be prepared for seats of sponsored candidates. In the absence of enough eligible applications or applicants qualified in the admission procedure, the seats will be filled with other eligible and qualified candidates.
