The Education Department, Gujarat State has played vital role by developing strategies for high growth of professional education that include a pivotal role for the private sector.

To improve the quality of professional education in Gujarat State and to pave ways for promoting and establishing of world class educational institutions imparting professional courses in Gujarat State, the State Government has made provision in the “Gujarat Professional Technical Educational Colleges or Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fees) Act, 2007” for award of Centre of Excellence status to the colleges, institutions or private universities in the State.

“Center of Excellence” means the College ,Institution or Private University in which the quality education , path breaking research , innovative teaching methodologies, quality extension services , high employability and entrepreneurship are imparted ; or institution in Gujarat ,setup by such institutes and institutes and institutes of strategic or security related interest as notified by the State Government ; or Institutions of Eminence Deemed to be University as declared by UGC (Institutions of Eminence Deemed to be Universities ) Regulations , 2017; The objective for declaration of any college, institution or private university is that, it would be exempted from all or any of the provisions of the Act No.2 of 2008.

By granting the status as “Centre of Excellence”, the college, institute or the private university is granted autonomy in admissions, fees or both by the State Government.
