Salient Features of Studio

Studios in undergraduate programs at CEPT are now being brought center-stage, and they are looked upon as largest and most important parts of the curriculum. To enable this basic changes have been made to the how they are conceptualized, number of students, credits and academic calendar.

  • Duration: Each Unit will be repeated every semester or every alternate semester. Tutors are encouraged to see the unit as a long term project (minimum 3 years). The outcome of the studios is expected to be a publishable monograph.

  • Size of a Studio: Each Studio Unit would be small and be led by a single tutor or dual tutors and assisted by a student / graduate Teaching Assistant. Dual Tutor Units intake will be15 students and Single Tutor Units will have an intake of 12 students. There would be 10-12 such studio units for B.Arch. and B.I.D.

  • Credits: To emphasize on studio, the number of courses a student takes has been reduced and studio credits increased (from 9 to 12). Besides studio, students will be taking 2 courses and 1 elective. This would remove the complex coordination of assignments and fragmented student attention.

  • Grading: Grading during the semester, will carry a cumulative weightage of 70%, end semester Portfolio Evaluation will carry 30% of total studio grade.

  • Portfolio Grading: The portfolio is a “purposeful collection of student’s work that informs of the achievements in the studio”. It should have all the information, which informs the outcomes of the studio. It should have the site activities/ conceptual sketches/ models/ photographs/ presentations/ data analysis / proposals/ designs etc. The purpose of the portfolio is to enable independent assessment of student’s work.

  • Performance Feedback: During the entire semester, the work of each student would need to be assessed at regular intervals. There have to be at least three written feedbacks provided to the students recording their performance in the studio. Templates for appraisal (warning and appreciation) can e found in the downloads section

  • Flexible time table: Faculty can choose their studio timings with reference to a flexible timetable prepared by each department.

  • Remuneration: Please contact the University staff Office for detailed inquiry on the remuneration. However, rates vary depending upon the years of experience 5-25 years)

  • Calendar: Changes have been made in the academic calendar of 18 weeks. All the courses (inclusive of exams) would run for only the first 12 weeks. The last four weeks would be exclusively for studios, followed by 2 weeks for juries/grading and exhibition. To enable efficient running of your studio, scheduling site visits and other curricular agendas, kindly refer the calendar details. (Calendar.pdf)
