About the Faculty

The Faculty of Architecture at CEPT University is a space for critical inquiry, design excellence, and contextual thinking within the discipline of Architecture. Rooted in India yet globally engaged, CEPT since its founding in 1962, has produced architects who combine rigorous spatial intelligence, social responsibility, and environmental sensitivity. At CEPT Undergraduate, Masters and PhD programs approach architecture as a cultural practice that is grounded in research, first-principles thinking, and deep engagement with local realities, while remaining globally connected through an unparalleled network of collaborators.

The Faculty of Architecture at CEPT University is one of India’s most influential centres for architectural education, known for its rigorous pedagogy, critical inquiry, and deep engagement with context.

Founded in 1962 by the Pritzker Laureate BV Doshi on the belief that architecture emerges from the careful understanding of climate, culture, society, and technology, the faculty nurtures a culture of questioning, making, and reflection. The pedagogy is studio centric and choice based, allowing each student to construct a distinct academic trajectory, exploring design as a process informed by history, theory, construction, and urban realities.

With Ahmedabad as its living laboratory, the faculty draws from modernist legacies while actively addressing contemporary challenges of  sustainability, housing, and social equity.

Students are encouraged to develop their own intellectual and ideological positions, supported by an open academic environment, strong practitioner involvement, and global exchanges.

This creates a learning environment at CEPT preparing architects who are intellectually grounded, ethically aware, and capable of shaping meaningful built environments.
