Admission Procedures

Procedure for Admissions to Master’s in Urban Infrastructure (MUI) Program, Faculty of Planning for the Academic year 2026 – 27

National Applicants: 

  1. Applicants for the M.Plan. program in the general category shall have a minimum of 50 % aggregate marks and those in the reserved categories shall have a minimum of 45 % aggregate marks in qualifying degree (or equivalent) from a recognized University / Institution.
  2. Bachelors Degree (with minimum 4 years) in Architecture, Civil Engineering/Technology, Environmental Engineering, Construction Technology, Planning, Urban Design, Geography, Economics, Sociology or Social work, Environmental Science, Law (or equivalent).
  3. Masters Degree (or equivalent) in Geomatics/Geoinformatics/Geographical Information System, Geography, Economics, Sociology or Social work, Environmental Science, Management, Law, Urban Management.

International/ Foreign Nationals:

As mentioned in National Applicants qualifying degree/ programme from recognised University or Institution (or equivalent) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or equivalent grades (with written conversion formula to ascertain the equivalency).

Sponsored Candidates:

  1. Applicants for the M.Plan. program in the general category shall have a minimum of 50 % aggregate marks and those in the reserved categories shall have a minimum of 45 % aggregate marks in qualifying degree (or equivalent) from a recognized University / Institution.
  2. Applicants should have minimum 5 years of overall experience as on the last date of application of the year in which the application is made, with at least 2 years in service of the organization sponsoring his/her study. This organization can be Government, Non-government, academic, industrial and research based in the relevant field for which the candidate is seeking admission.
  3. Bachelor Degree  (with minimum 4 years) in Architecture, Civil Engineering/Technology, Environmental Engineering, Construction Technology, Planning, Urban Design Geography, Economics, Sociology or Social work, Environmental Science, Law (or equivalent).
  4. Masters Degree (or equivalent) in Geomatics/Geoinformatics/Geographical Information System, Geography, Economics, Sociology or Social work, Environmental Science, Management, Law, Urban Management.

Application Information & Requirements

The application forms contain the following:

1. The entire application process will be undertaken through online mode.

2. There is one common application form for programs MUP, MUI(MUI-WASH), and MUTS.  For MUI and MUI (WASH) the application is same.

3. The application for CEPT seats is to be filled on CEPT University website and application for Government seats is to be filled on ACPC (Govt. of Gujarat) website.

4. Applicants must give all four preferences in sequence in the application. Applicants  will be allotted seat of their preference. Seat allotment will be done end of Semester 1. 

5. Seat Allotment:

  1. All eligible applicants  applying for the admission procedure for programs MUP, MUI(MUI-WASH), and MUTS will complete the admission procedure and will be admitted at Faculty of Planning in the Semester 1: Foundation Program as per merit list. 
  2. The applicants will again give their final preferences for all four programs at the end of Semester 1. 
  3. The allotment of seat for specific program will be done end of Semester 1 based on the final preferences. 
  4. All Students who successfully complete the FP foundation semester will get the seat of their preference in the Program. There will be no interview or evaluation for seat allotment at the end of Semester-1.

6. Academic Transcripts:  Self-attested Degree certificates, and mark sheets for all semesters. Applicants receiving grades as GPA/CGPA need to send the document indicating the relationship of GPA/CGPA with percentage marks as per their university/ institute along with all the mark sheets. Applicants studying in the final semester need to submit all the mark sheets till the penultimate semester.

7. Caste Certificate if applicable: The applicants belonging to reserved/under-privileged category (ies) must submit the certificates of proof issued from relevant government authorities.

8. Work Experience Certificates: Applicant’s work experience only after graduation is noted. The work experience should be supported by relevant proofs in the application form e.g. Experience certificate.

9. Portfolio/Creative work or Professional work: For the Programs on MUP/MUI/MUI-WASH/MUTS the portfolio submission is needed. The portfolio should contain samples of academic work, professional work, thesis report, seminar, research paper, internship report and independent work. Portfolio in digital format must be uploaded as a single PDF file no longer than 25 MB.

10. Statement of purpose with the word limit as specified in the application form. (See below for details)

11. References from two referees who know you well. The referee should be able to upload the reference letters till 3 days after the announced last date of application. (Online reference letters to be filled and sent directly by the referee as per instruction in application form)

12. CEPT PG Test/GATE/UGC NET:  CEPT PG test or GATE or UGC NET is mandatory for all applicants.  CEPT PG test will be online from your home and applicants who have appeared for the GATE/UGC NET exam are not required to appear for CEPT PG Test. Please note GATE is considered only for admission and no GATE scholarship will be given.

13. GATE/UGC NET cut off: applicants who have received the score below cutoff score as published by the relevant authority, he/she needs to appear for online CEPT PG Test.   

14. GRE Test: International/Foreign Applicants will have to submit the valid GRE Score. GRE score shall be considered valid if taken within the last 2 years. The GRE score should be supported by appropriate documents. International/Foreign Applicants not having GRE score can appear for CEPT PG Test. CEPT PG Test will be online from your home.

National Applicants: 

The entire evaluation process is online. It is mandatory to appear for all the stages of evaluation of the admission process. Evaluation shall be done in two stages

Stage 1 – Eligibility Check and Shortlist:

All applications will be screened at this stage in the following manner:

1. An evaluation committee will be set up by the program to assess application forms, documents and portfolios to shortlist eligible applicants for the program.

2. Checklist of Documents required and related criteria for this stage of eligibility check are follows:

  1. Experience of full time nature after the qualifying degree and supported with certificate(s) will be considered for marks. The cut-off date for counting work experience shall be considered as the last date of submission of application for all applicants.**  

c. Statement of purpose (with the word limit as mentioned in the application form) Other than introducing yourself and your motivations, this should also specifically discuss the relevance of your recent and current activities, and some important academic and/ or professional experiences that make you a suitable candidate for this program

Shortlisting Criteria

  1. Clarity of your objective and motivation.
  2. Authenticity of the write-up.
  3. Ability to articulate experiences and references in relation to the motivation to join the course.
  4. Citing relevant material.
  5. Clear structure and vocabulary.

d. Two References – Please share the link provided in the application form with the referees. (Referees are kindly required to submit the online reference form, including a reference letter, to assist the University in making a full assessment of each applicant’s academic record and abilities)

Shortlisting Criteria

  1. Relevance of the Reference (and the Referee) with the subject matter.
  2. Nature of Reference received.
  3. Authenticity of the Reference

e. The portfolio should contain samples of academic work, professional work, thesis report, seminar, research paper, internship report and independent work. Portfolio in digital format must be uploaded as a single PDF file no longer than 25 MB.

Shortlisting Criteria

1. Competence in a coherent demonstration of candidates over all work, skills, strengths

2. Authenticity of the Portfolio (signed and stamped by the institution/ office/ organization)

f. GATE/UGC NET exam score card/Online CEPT PG test

Applicants will have to submit the valid GATE/UGC NET score. The score should be supported by appropriate documents. Applicants not having GATE/UGC NET needs to  appear for online CEPT PG test.

International Applicants

g. GRE Test score card/Online CEPT PG test

Applicants will have to submit the valid GRE Score. GRE score shall be considered valid if taken within the last 2 years. The GRE score should be supported by appropriate documents. Applicants  not having GRE score need to  appear for online CEPT PG Test.

*Note: In case the final semester results are pending then percentages till the penultimate semester will be considered.

** This complete proportion of the marks shall only be given to applicants with a minimum of 12 months of domain related work experience supported by a certificate. This experience shall be excluding the period of mandatory academic internship. The cut off for counting work experience shall be considered as the last date of submission of applications.

3. After scrutiny of all applications for eligibility in stage 1, the shortlist of eligible applicants may be prepared based on their qualifying degree performance by deciding on a cut-off point. The cut-off point will be set as the ratio of available seats to the number of applicants to be evaluated in Stage 2 to a minimum at 1:3 or a suitable ratio as decided by the University.

Stage 2 – Evaluation: 

The assessment process for this stage will be completely online. All eligible and shortlisted applicants will be evaluated as per criteria mentioned in the table below. As per the process set by Admission Committee, appointed by the Faculty of Planning, each applicant will be evaluated for the following criteria.

a) Sensitivity to urban issues

b) Discussion on contents of application form and academic work samples (project work/thesis/field work/internship work/research paper/course work etc. as part of qualifying degree) to assess candidate's understanding of current degree and knowledge of the planning discipline  applied to and link between the two.

c) Verification and Quality of relevant work experience from the samples submitted.

*CEPT PG test/GATE/UGC NET/GRE and Online Personal Interview is mandatory to qualify for merit list.

The consolidated common merit order of the applicants evaluated for Stage 2 shall be announced.  The candidates can view their merit rank on their dashboard on CEPT admission portal once the merit list is published.

Based on the number of available seats, CEPT University will offer admission to applicants as per the merit order in the merit list. The applicant will be asked to deposit the fee and secure the admission by the date given in the offer letter. After this date CEPT University at its discretion may offer the admission to candidates in the waitlists in the order of merit as per the availability of seats.

Please note for MUP/MUI(MUI-WASH)/ and MUTS final seat allocation will be at the end of Semester 1 as per section 5.0 of Application Requirements.

2.  International/ Foreign Nationals:

The entire application process will be undertaken through online mode. The Evaluation procedure are the same as for National Applicants except where mentioned.

Applicants will be enrolled in the M. Plan Foundation Semester.

3.  Sponsored Candidates:

The Evaluation procedure are the same as mentioned for National applicants.

The applicants will be required to submit the following:

  • Sponsorship Certificate and/or No Objection certificate from the last employer
  • Proof of Employment that may include the
  1. Appointment letter
  2. Form No. 16 for the last two years from the last employer
  3. Experience certificate(s) indicating minimum experience of 5 years

The admissions for Government Seats shall be conducted by the respective Admission Committee constituted in accordance with the provisions of the said Act. These seats shall be offered to the students who have passed the qualifying examination from an eligible Board or University located in the State of Gujarat. The students who qualify as per the eligibility criteria and possess domicile of the State of Gujarat shall also be eligible for admission.
