The Bachelor’s in Design (BDES) (Hons.) is the only 5‑year undergraduate design program in India. It benefits from peer perspectives at the CEPT Foundation Program (CFP), which includes students from Architecture, Planning and Technology, and a focussed final year emphasising research and professional practice through industry opportunities. The Honours degree is based on the extent of engagement with the design curriculum and the enhanced credits earned.

Bachelor’s in Design

Admissions 2026-27 - Seats and Minimum Eligibility Criteria: 

The Bachelor’s in Design program offers a choice of two majors- Product Design and Communication Design. Students select the major at the end of their 2nd year. For students who are interested in accessing an interdisciplinary design education the selection of a major is not compulsory.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. All applicants must appear and qualify in the UCEED to become eligible for the program.

    The eligibility criteria for the program is aligned to the UCEED qualifying examinations as below.

    • Final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.

    • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (www.aiu.ac.in).

    • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.

    • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.

    • Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). • H.S.C. vocational examination.

    • General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

    • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

    • Candidates who have completed Class XII (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination.

    • In case the Class XII examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have already passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination before appearing for UCEED.

    • A Diploma recognized by the All-India Council for Technical Education (www.aicteindia.org) or a State Board of Technical Education of at least THREE years duration.

  2. Applicants must obtain minimum 50% aggregate marks in any of the above qualifying examinations to be eligible for the program.

Note:

  • Applicants awaiting the final result for their qualifying examinations will have to produce a certificate from the school/institute that they have appeared in the appropriate final examination.
  • Applicants who have applied for verification/rechecking of marks may also apply and submit the rechecking certificate.
  • All applicants must submit their final mark sheet on or before the stipulated date and time as communicated by CEPT, failing which admission will not be granted/ forfeited.

Admission Procedure 2026-27

The evaluation will be done in three stages, as mentioned below:

Stage 1 

Scrutiny for eligibility: All applications received will be scrutinized based on information provided/uploaded in the application forms. Only those applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be considered for Stage 2 (Merit list).

Stage 2

Announcement of Merit List: For all eligible applications the final order of the merit list will be based on their qualified UCEED score. A conditional offer of admission is granted until the submission of the final marksheet of the qualifying examination.

Stage 3

Confirmation of Admission: Applicants submit all requisite documents and complete admissions procedures. If the applicant has received below 50% aggregate marks in their qualifying examination, their conditional offer of admission will be revoked.

Note:

  • GUJCET or JEE or NATA scores are NOT accepted as eligibility criteria for the program. Admission to the program is ONLY based on valid UCEED Score and 50% aggregate in the qualifying examination. 
  • All eligible applicants must appear and obtain valid scores in both Part-A and Part-B of UCEED to be considered for the merit list.
  • If the applicant is unable to fulfil any of the above criteria, they become disqualified from the admissions process.
