Admission Procedures

Procedure for Admissions to Master’s in Urban Design (MUD) Program, Faculty of Planning for the Academic year 2026 – 27

National Applicants: 

Applicants for the MUD program in the general category shall have a minimum of 50 % aggregate marks and those in the reserved categories shall have a minimum of 45 % aggregate marks in qualifying degree (or equivalent) from a recognized University / Institution.

Bachelors Degree (with minimum 4 years) in Architecture, Urban Design and Planning (or equivalent). .

International/ Foreign Nationals:

As mentioned in National Applicants qualifying degree/ programme from recognised University or Institution (or equivalent) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or equivalent grades (with written conversion formula to ascertain the equivalency).

Sponsored Candidates:

Applicants for the MUD program in the general category shall have a minimum of 50 % aggregate marks and those in the reserved categories shall have a minimum of 45 % aggregate marks in qualifying degree (or equivalent) from a recognized University / Institution.

Applicants should have minimum 5 years of overall experience as on the last date of application of the year in which the application is made, with at least 2 years in service of the organization sponsoring his study. This organization can be academic, industrial or research based in the relevant field for which the candidate is seeking admission.

 Bachelors Degree in Architecture, Urban Design and Planning.

Application Information & Requirements

The application forms contain the following:

  1. The entire application process will be undertaken through online mode. 
  2. Academic Transcripts:  Self-attested Degree certificates, and mark sheets for all semesters. Applicants receiving grades as GPA/CGPA need to send the document indicating the relationship of GPA/CGPA with percentage marks as per their university/ institute along with all the mark sheets. Applicants studying in the final semester need to submit all the mark sheets till the penultimate semester.
  3. Caste Certificate if applicable: The applicants belonging to reserved/under-privileged category (ies) must submit the certificates of proof issued from relevant government authorities.
  4. Work Experience Certificates: Applicant’s work experience only after graduation is noted in months. The work experience should be supported by relevant proofs in the application form e.g. Experience certificate.
  5. Portfolio/Creative work or Professional work: A portfolio is required to be submitted for applicants of the MUD program in two formats – 1. hard copy and 2. digital format (both must contain the same information). The portfolio may contain up to a maximum of 12 numbers of A4 size pages of design content. Please note that your portfolio may not be reviewed if the submission is more than 12 pages. The title page and table of contents, if included, shall not be counted towards the 12 pages of content. The portfolio should showcase the best work and will be judged on both content and overall design. Applicants must clearly identify the material that is not entirely theirs by providing due credits. The Portfolio must be saved as a single file in PDF format and submitted. The file size must be no larger than 12MB. The hard copy of the portfolio of A4 sheets shall be unbound separate A4 sheets and sent to the mailing address by the application deadline. Mailing address: "FP Admissions, Faculty of Planning, CEPT University, Kasturbhai Lalbhai Campus, University Road, Ahmedabad 380009." Superscribed the envelope with "Portfolio for MUD Admission 2026". Last date to receive the hard copy of the portfolio is within 3 days after the last date of application.
  6. Statement of purpose with the word limit as specified in the application form. (See below for details)
  7. References from two referees who know you well. The referee should be able to upload the reference letters till 3 days after the announced last date of application. (Online reference letters to be filled and sent directly by the referee as per instruction in application form)
  8. International Applicants:  The mode of teaching for the program is in English. The proficiency in English language should be good. The International applicants should rate their proficiency in English language at the scale of 1 to 5 in the application form. 
  9. CEPT PG Test/GATE: CEPT PG Test or GATE is mandatory for all applicants.  CEPT PG test will be online from home and applicants who have appeared for the GATE exam are not required to appear for CEPT PG Test. Please note GATE is considered only for Admissions and no GATE scholarship will be given. 
  10. GATE cut off: Applicants who have received the score below cutoff score as published by the relevant authority, he/she needs to appear for online CEPT PG Test.   
  11. GRE Test: International/Foreign Applicants will have to submit the valid GRE Score. GRE score shall be considered valid if taken within the last 2 years or as per the validity in the scorecard. The GRE score should be supported by appropriate documents. International /Foreign Applicants not having GRE score can appear for CEPT PG Test. CEPT PG Test will be online from your home.

1. National Applicants:

The entire evaluation process is online. It is mandatory to appear for all the stages of evaluation of the admission process. Evaluation shall be done in two stages

Stage 1 – Eligibility Check

All applications will be screened at this stage in the following manner:

  1. An evaluation committee will be set up by the program to assess documents and portfolios to shortlist eligible candidates for the program.
  2. Checklist of Documents required and the assessment criteria for this stage are follows:

  2. Marks in qualifying examination Average over all semesters*

b. Work experience – certificates
Assessment Criteria
This complete proportion of the marks shall only be given to applicants with a minimum of 12 months of domain related work experience supported by a certificate. This experience shall be excluding the period of mandatory academic internship. The cut off for counting work experience shall be considered as the last date of submission of applications.

c. Statement of purpose (with the word limit as mentioned in the application form). This is your academic statement. This should include a description of why you intend to pursue your proposed subject field, why you want to study at CEPT University, and how our program can help you achieve your professional goals.
Assessment Criteria

  • Clarity of your objective and motivation.
  • Authenticity of the write-up.
  • Ability to articulate experiences and references in relation to the motivation to join the course.
  • Citing relevant material.
  • Clear structure and vocabulary.

d. Two References – Please share the link provided in the application form with the referees. (Referees are kindly required to submit the online reference form, including a reference letter, to assist the University in making a full assessment of each applicant’s academic record and abilities). It is preferred that one letter is from a faculty of the academic institution you have been a part of and the second is from your former employer.

e. The portfolio should showcase the best work and will be judged on both content and overall design. Applicants must clearly identify the material that is not entirely theirs by providing due credits. The Portfolio must be saved as a single file in PDF format and submitted. The file size must be no larger than 12MB. The hard copy of the portfolio of A4 sheets shall be unbound separate A4 sheets and sent to the mailing address by the application deadline.  
Assessment Criteria

  • Quality of content and overall design
  • Authenticity of the Portfolio (signed and stamped by the institution/ office/ organization)

f. GATE exam score card/Online CEPT PG test
Assessment Criteria
Applicants will have to submit the valid GATE score. The score should be supported by appropriate documents. Applicants not having GATE needs to  appear for online CEPT PG test.

International Applicants

g. GRE Test score card
Assessment Criteria
Applicants will have to submit the valid GRE Score. GRE score shall be considered valid if taken within the last 2 years. The GRE score should be supported by appropriate documents. Applicants not having GRE score should appear for a online CEPT PG Test.

*Note: In case the final semester results are pending then percentages till the penultimate semester will be considered.

After scrutiny of all applications for eligibility in stage 1, the shortlist of eligible applicants may be prepared based on their qualifying degree performance by deciding on a cut-off point. The cut-off point will be set as the ratio of available seats to the number of applicants to be evaluated in Stage 2 to a minimum at 1:3 or a suitable ratio as decided by the University.

Stage 2 – Evaluation

The assessment process for this stage will be completely online. All eligible and shortlisted applicants will be evaluated as per criteria mentioned in the table below.

As per the process set by Admission Committee, appointed by the Faculty of Planning, each applicant will be evaluated for the following criteria.

  1. Work experience
  2. Qualifying Degree
  3. CEPT PG Test(online)/GATE*- for National applicants
  4. GRE Test/CEPT PG Test(online)*- for International applicants
  5. Statement of purpose
  6. Recommendation letters ( 2 recommendations)
  7. Portfolio Review

*CEPT PG Test/GATE/GRE is mandatory to qualify for merit list.

The consolidated common merit order of the applicants evaluated for Stage 2 shall be announced. Please note that our merit list is not published on website. The candidates can view their merit rank on their dashboard on CEPT admission portal once the merit list is published.

Based on the number of available seats, CEPT University will offer admission to candidates as per the merit order in the merit list. The candidate will be asked to deposit the fee and secure the admission by the date given in the offer letter. After this date CEPT University at its discretion may offer the admission to candidates in the waitlists in the order of merit as per the availability of seats.

2. International/ Foreign Nationals:

The Admission procedure and assessment criteria are the same as for National Applicants except where mentioned.

3. Sponsored Candidates:

The Admission procedure and assessment criteria are the same as mentioned for National Applicants.

The candidates will be required to submit the following:

  • Sponsorship Certificate and/or No Objection certificate from the last employer
  • Proof of Employment that may include the
  1. Appointment letter
  2. Form No. 16 for the last two years from the last employer
  3. Experience certificate(s) indicating minimum experience of 5 years

Merit-based scholarships are offered to applicants along with their admission offer letter based on their standing in the admissions merit list. Applicants can apply for means-based scholarships on the online admissions portal after they have submitted their admission application.
